Do you remember when it was fun to imagine taking a trip to some far-flung location for business or pleasure? Has the pent-up itch to explore reordered your bucket list? For those of us who can only pine for such adventures right now, there are many options at GPL to vicariously sate that yearning to roam.

I love how books and online programs can provide deep experience, cultural and historical context, insider tips and perspectives—without the expense and hassle that often accompanies in-person travels! So, in honor of this Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I wanted to write the first in a series of “Armchair Travel” blogs that will focus on books and programs that are geographically linked.

I have just finished reading: Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, Smoke by Joe Ide and Breakfast with Buddha by Roland Merullo. All were good picks, each very different in their approach to story building and characterization.

I am currently engrossed in: Death Comes to Pemberley by PD James, Every Last Fear by Alex Findlay, and listening to The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware.

So, who am I, anyway? I am a resident of West Groton, with a husband, 4 teenaged children and a Samoyed puppy-all of whom are systematically destroying our house during the COVID crisis. I am currently working part time at the Groton Public Library and in a former life I was employed as a Director or PR/Marketing at a high-tech consulting firm. My BA is in Psychology, but most of my time was spent in college earning a Concentration on the Novel.
