If you are looking for an item that is not owned by the Groton Public Library or other MVLC libraries, we can help you request materials from another Massachusetts library or out-of-state.

Please first check the Catalog to see if the title you want is available in Groton or another MVLC library. You can also check the Commonwealth Catalog (ComCat) for requestable items from other Massachusetts libraries. Still no luck? Then call, email, or visit the Library to make an interlibrary loan request:

  • Call the Reference Desk at 978-448-8000 during library hours
  • Email info@gpl.org
  • Use the Contact Us form on this website
  • Ask library staff at the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk for assistance

You will need to tell us the author, title, and format (book, large print book, audiobook on CD, DVD, etc.) of the item you want to request. If you know the ISBN number of the item, that makes it even easier. You must have a library card and account in good standing.

How long will it take to get something from another library?
Items requested from MVLC libraries usually arrive in about 5 business days, but it may take longer if the item is in high demand. Out-of-network items may take 2 weeks or longer to be delivered by mail. Journal articles are usually delivered electronically via email and arrive within a day or two.

How will I know when my item has arrived and where do I pick it up?
Library staff will call you or send you an email notice or text message when your item has arrived. If you have not signed up to receive notices via email or text, you can sign up under personal preference in your online account. Or stop by the Circulation Desk the next time you are in and give us your email address or text number. Your material can be picked up at the Circulation Desk.

How long can I keep an item from another library?
For out-of-network loans, the loan period is set by the lending library and can vary from 1-3 weeks. Materials borrowed from non-MVLC libraries cannot be renewed. If an item is lost or damaged, replacement costs will be determined by the lending library.
