Holiday Closures
The Library is closed on the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Easter Sunday
- Mother’s Day
- Juneteenth
- Independence Day
- Veterans' Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Monday holidays (MLK Jr. Day, Labor Day, etc.) do not impact our schedule.
Special Hours
- Thanksgiving Eve: Close at 6 pm
- Christmas Eve: Close at 2 pm
- New Year’s Eve: Close at 5 pm
- Staff Development: (Friday before Christmas) Open at 12 noon

Library Closures & Delays
Emergency Closings
The Director may close the Library In the event of unsafe weather or other conditions (power outage).
- How to Check: Look for the red alert banner at the top of our website for immediate updates.
- School Closures/Delays: If Groton schools are closed or delayed, Children's morning storytimes are automatically cancelled.
- Library Programs: Determined on a case-by-case basis. Check our online calendar or call to confirm.
- Room Reservations: We will contact the primary reservation holder as soon as a decision is made.
Decision Process
The Library Director makes the call, independent of the schools or other town departments. The latest weather forecasts, "on the ground" conditions, and recommendations from the Town Manager, Highway Director, and Library Trustees are all considered.
