June is a month jammed with things to contemplate and celebrate: the start of summer, Pride Month, Juneteenth 6/19), Father’s Day (6/20), Graduations and more. Closer to home, we have the start of GPL’s fantastically popular Summer Reading Program (6/15), with an exciting lineup of activities for children and adults. It also just happens to be our official re-opening day!

I hope that these longer days will allow us all even more time to read. As you are busy logging your books for the Summer Reading Program, why not try to include some picks that highlight the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community? The following are some suggestions that have been contain characters, or provide history and/or personal accounts of those who belong to this talented, but often under-represented group:

Recent Readings

I have recently just finished reading Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro; The Sandman by Lars Kepler and listening to the audiobook version of Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi.

Right now, I am enjoying The Searcher by Tana French, Intimations by Zadie Smith; and I am listening to The Lost Village by Camilla Sten.

So, who am I, anyway? I am a resident of West Groton, with a husband, 4 teenaged children and a Samoyed puppy-all of whom are systematically destroying our house during the COVID crisis. I am currently working part time at the Groton Public Library and in a former life I was employed as a Director or PR/Marketing at a high-tech consulting firm. My BA is in Psychology, but most of my time was spent in college earning a Concentration on the Novel. That is all to say that I make no claims at being an expert of any kind and my thoughts, opinions and mistakes are solely my own.
