Who knows you best? As much as family members can offer unconditional support, they can also wound with laser-point accuracy. Inheritance of gifts and curses as they are passed down through generations is an immediately relatable theme with a poignancy and angst that strikes especially deep.
The titles below demonstrate how diverse the portrayal of familial relationships can be. Many of these are true classics, still popular for good reason. The breadth and scope of these works necessitates a greater page count, but those willing to fully immerse themselves will be richly rewarded.

March Two-Minute Review
![]() | East of Eden - John Steinbeck
An allegory of epic proportions about two families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons; two brothers as archetypes of Cain and Abel; and one of the most iconic femme fatale characters in all of literature. This is the perfect time to visit (or revisit) a saga experiencing a resurgence on BookTok and with an upcoming adaptation coming this year to Netflix. The new series is directed by the daughter of Elia Kazan, the director of the original 1955 version starring James Dean. A gripping tale of good vs. evil – and a reminder that family stories have no expiration date. |

So, who am I, anyway? I am a resident of West Groton, with a husband, four mostly-grown children, and a Samoyed that keeps my vacuum well-employed. I am currently working part-time at the Groton Public Library and writing monthly reviews for Booklist Magazine. In a former life, I was a Director of PR/Marketing at a high-tech consulting firm. My BA is in Psychology, but most of my time was spent in college earning a Concentration in the Novel. That is all to say that I make no claims at being an expert of any kind, and my thoughts, opinions. and mistakes are solely my own. I am just a person whose passion for books has continued to grow from the moment I was first able to grip and gnaw on them. I have been devouring them ever since.
