The Groton Public Library has a collection of fiction and nonfiction titles in large print.  Popular categories are best sellers, mysteries, and classics. This collection is located on the middle level.

Many of the DVDs and Blu-ray discs in the video collection, including feature films, popular television series, and documentaries are captioned (SDH) for the deaf and those with hearing difficulties. The Library also has a small collection of videos with descriptions for the blind or visually impaired.  Ask the librarians for help or search the catalog using the subject headings: Films for the hearing impaired; Videorecordings for the hearing impaired; Films for people with visual disabilities.

The Library has available a full-color Optelec Spectrum Jr. Color Video Magnifier for those with limited vision.  Please ask for it at the Information Desk on the upper level. The Optelec allows you to:

  • View small newspaper or magazine print and illustrations with magnification from 1 inch to 4 inches.
  • Read personal correspondence and write letters or personal checks.
  • The magnifier has a 14-inch display screen, a simplified control panel and variable height adjustment. It switches easily from full color to black and white or multiple foreground/background color combinations.
